Story of Kalukda and Kallurti 

Kalkuda and Kallurti were born in a poor family of a sculptor named Shambu Kalkudaand Ervadi. Kaluda was named “Veere” and Kallurti was named “Kalamma”. At a very young age, they lost their father so "Veere" thought of continuing his father's occupation. As his father was a very famous sculptor, he got a job in Karkala to sculpt the statue of Gomatta. There, he carefully and beautifully sculpted the Gomatta, and people from various places started coming to see the statue. In a short time, Karkala got famous. But there was an apolitical mind running in King Bailasudda's mind, so he made a plan. Even after the mastakaabhisheka he told Veera to wait for some days as he wanted to personally felicitate him for his great work, Veera waited for a night. The next day he was called in front in front of people and was ordered by the king to cut his one hand and one leg so that he couldn’t create such a statue anywhere in the world. Veere was handicapped and he didn't return to his home and instead went to Venur. On the other hand, his sister who stayed at his house, had a dream that something wrong had been done to her brother and it had been 3 years since her brother had returned home. Hence, Kallurti left her mother at home and she went in search of her brother. She arrived at Karkala and there she was told that he had left. So, Kallurti in her early 20's was walking all alone that night. A drunkard tried to harass her but she was saved by a Naga, then she went in search of her brother.

She finally found him in Venur. She saw her brother handicapped and she saw that he was still sculpting the statue of Gommata there was a river passing and across the banks of the river there was a war happening between Bailasudda Arasu and Venur Arasu, kalamma went running towards her brother and cried seeing his condition. Then Kalamma told him that they would take revenge on Bailasudda Arasu, and at that time they came to know through a Maya shakti about their past. They got to know that they were cursed and sent to earth as human beings and in reality they were from Deva Loka, their fault was that, when in Deva Loka Dev Guru Brihaspati was absent due to some reason. They called guru Vishwakarma and he made some mistake so his brother and sister cut his head. Hence, they were punished and sent to the earth, now after knowing about the reality both brother and sister went to the Mahalingeshwara temple at Venur made an offering to Shiva jumped into the well and became Maya, and came in a different form kalkuda with black face and white dots on it with one hand and leg cut and looked dangerous and sister allure in the form of Mahakali. They both went to all the holy places, took holy baths, and acquired all powers and at last, they came to a place called "ubbar". Then they went to Bailur to take revenge on Bailauda Arasu and they tortured him mentally and physically. At last, the king asked about his problem to astrologer and he told him that there was a spiritual energy (Daiva) he asked him to organize kola build them a place, and give them their offerings.

Hence the king accepted and followed the astrologer's words. When he had organized the Kola, he got to know about the reality of the Daivas and he even felt sorry and asked for forgiveness Currently, that place is known as Palli Mangaldimatta. After this, both brother and sister helped the needy, punished the wrong people, and took their place in Tulu Nadu
